Fort Cabo da Rama on the southern coast of Goa changed hands until 1763, when the Portuguese took it over from the Raja of Sonda. Portuguese built it but was not used much. The British seized it from 1797 to 1802 and again from 1803 to 1813. Its remains were used as a prison until 1955. Now only the church within the dilapidated fort is in use and the beautiful views it offers from the headland is the main reason for the tourists to come here. According to the folklore, it is built on the site where Lord Rama lived with Sita for some time while he was in exile.
